Keene, NH – C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. announces grants to 12 food banks in or near communities where the company has a presence. The grants are focused on child hunger, primarily through the BackPack Program. The program alleviates weekend hunger among food-insecure children by quietly filling back packs with nutritious food on Fridays. More than 19,000 children at 145 elementary schools or other sites will be provided with food through the grants.

Additional Contributions
During Hunger Action Month in September, the C&S Family of Companies employees donated more than 26,200 pounds of food from an annual Food for Kids drive. C&S is matching each pound collected from its employees with a $1 contribution to Feeding America for child hunger initiatives. Since 2003, food donations by employees have totaled over 136 tons.
In time for holiday meals, the company is donating 8,120 turkeys to 25 Feeding America member food banks across the U.S. The turkeys will provide an estimated 200,000 meals for people in need.
