C&S Wholesale Grocers Announces 2016 Volunteer Month Projects and Volunteer of the Year

Keene, NH – During the month of April, when people across the nation made a difference through community service, employees at C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. and its family of companies volunteered at 35 projects from coast to coast. Projects included:

Alabama

  • Served meals at the Salvation Army in Montgomery, AL
  • Sorted and packed food for families in need at the Montgomery Food Bank in Montgomery, AL
  • Coordinated games and served a meal for children at the Family Sunshine Center in Montgomery, AL

California

  • Prepared and served a meal at a homeless shelter in Fresno, CA
  • Cleanup day with the Parks and Recreation Department in Sacramento, CA
  • Sorted food, cleaned, and built shelving at the Emergency Food Bank of Greater Stockton in Stockton, CA

Connecticut

  • Spruced up a neighborhood in Enfield, CT
  • Landscaped and organized the library at an elementary school in Hartford, CT

Florida

  • Sorted and inspected food at Feeding South Florida in Miami, FL
  • Served food at the Francis Soup Kitchen in Jacksonville, FL
  • Planted a vegetable garden at a Head Start School in Plant City, FL
  • Painted and landscaped at a community playground in Dover, FL
  • Cleaned warehouse space, and stocked and organized food donations at the Community Food and Outreach Center in Orlando, FL

Hawaii

  • Painted, landscaped, planted an organic garden, renovated a room, and prepared and served a meal

Indiana

  • Participated in an event to benefit Christel House Academy in Indianapolis, IN

Louisiana

  • Packed food boxes for distribution to food pantries at Our Daily Bread Food Bank in Hammond, LA

Maryland

  • Planted flowers and power washed at a school in Havre De Grace, MD

Massachusetts

  • Cleaned up at Look Park in Florence, MA
  • Spruced up a ball field and picnic area at Mill River Park in Amherst, MA
  • Adopt-a-Highway cleanup in Hatfield, MA
  • Cleaned grounds at South Hampton Road Elementary School in Westfield, MA
  • Sorted food at the Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Lowell, MA

New Jersey

  • Painted and landscaped at Lakeview School in Edison, NJ

New Hampshire

  • Painted at Hundred Nights homeless shelter in Keene, NH

New York

  • Painted and cleaned at a Humane Society in Middletown, NY
  • Various projects at Food Bank of the Hudson Valley in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Pennsylvania

  • Sorted clothing for a nonprofit in Dallastown, PA
  • Packed food boxes for distribution to seniors in need at Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley in Nazareth, PA
  • Cleanup with the Downtown Revitalization Group in DuBois, PA
  • Assisted in the thrift shop at Opportunity House in Reading, PA
  • Spruced up at Leg Up Therapeutic Riding Center in Mount Wolf, PA
  • Read to children and gave away books at elementary schools in Bethlehem, PA

South Carolina

  • Landscaped at The Salvation Army in Greenville, SC
  • Served food and landscaped at One80 Place homeless shelter in Charleston, SC

Texas

  • Cleanup at Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston, TX

Vermont

  • Repaired the roof at the Green Mount Girl Scouts Camp in Dummerston, VT

Additionally, C&S is pleased to honor Matt Dean as the company’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year. Matt has worked at C&S since 2008 and is part of the company’s Finance group at C&S corporate headquarters in Keene, NH. He is a Senior Analyst on the Tax team.

Over the span of 12 months, Matt Dean volunteered 1,000 hours for the Hillsboro (NH) Youth Athletic Association, a nonprofit organization that organizes sports programs for youth. He coaches kids year-round, ages 5 to 15, in three sports: soccer, softball, and basketball. Matt also serves on the organization’s Board of Directors.

C&S has honored one person as Volunteer of the Year since 2005.
